We’re back!
It’s been a while – and we’re back!
« An open square to the humankind, a place for education, culture and peace, » is how its architect, Frank Gehry, described the Niemeyer Center in Spain. Perhaps Frank Gehry will someday build a training center for Taylor’s Art English! We like innovative creativity and the physical culmination of imagination. We so love that Frank Gehry always puts technology to work to enable the construction of his dreams!
Apologies for this brief introductory digression to what is, in fact, just a quick note to let everyone know that yes, I was away for a little while and yes, I am back! My previous update to Taylor’s Art English goes back to July 2013, announcing an event in October 2013. This event never took place because, unfortunately, I had a very serious accident. But I squared the circle! Thanks to incredible medical care, my brain was put back to where it belongs, my bones were nailed and bolted together again. Thanks to my talented physiotherapist Paloma Alvarez Morales, at one of the best hospitals just outside of Paris, I went from lying, to sitting, to maneuvering in a wheelchair, to standing, to walking, to climbing up and down stairs. Magic! Apparently, contrary to all initial expectations after my accident I did indeed square the circle – and have come out the other side!
What is still to come of course remains open-ended. What is already a great source of pleasure, is how much I continue to believe in the value and purpose of Taylor’s Art English. There are many reasons for this.
I grew up in a multilingual, international environment thanks to my family and schooling. The values conveyed in my school, Frankfurt International School opened a world of opportunities right from the start – before I went on to study in England, Scotland, and France.
Firmly anchored in our world’s international environment, I am now, thankfully, ready to sail its waters again! More importantly, I thrive on helping others set sail too. I enjoy enabling others to improve their English language skills so they can describe artworks, exhibitions, provide condition reports for works to be auctioned, share market results, negotiate deals, interview artists, network, and more. Communicating, translating, sharing, discovering, learning,… This is where I come from. This is what I’ve always done. This is who I am.
My school’s beliefs are as follows and I continue to share and thrive on them:

Why the art market you may wonder? I’ve always enjoyed creating art (drawing and painting) as a pastime, then decided to study art history at the Sorbonne in Paris after obtaining my initial Business Studies bachelors degree from the University of Edinburgh, in Scotland. This decision came at a time when I already had a good position in an international Communications company. Indeed, I very much enjoyed doing business with my fantastic clients at IBM EMEA, based in Paris while working for Ogilvy&Mather and then OgilvyOne, Paris.
But, there was a dream I needed to follow: Art. My positions: first, as an Intern at Le Magasin, Centre national d’art contemporain in Grenoble, and later, Intern, Assistant, and finally Director at the Parisian contemporary art gallery Jousse Entreprise (when it was located in the 13th arrondissement, the contemporary arts hub at the time); This great introduction to the international world of art business was followed by internships at Sotheby’s Paris and writing assignments for the thriving paris-art.com website.
All these experiences allowed me to understand how much Business English was used in the art world! I detected a definite need for improved English skills in the field of my passion. Fantastic!

The Vuitton also has an open-ended quality. It is a ship, or a whale, or a box surrounded by sails, or as one Parisian put it to me, a butterfly about to take off. – Alex Bozikovic in his article for http://www.theglobeandmail.com (worth reading!)
